Disk defragmentation is a really serious issue as it slows down your computer over time and reduces the performance. Windows deframenting softwares is not only slow but also not very good at the task, so here’s our first freeware offering to you SmartDefrag.

Fragmentation : Refers to the condition of a disk in which files are divided into pieces scattered around the disk. Fragmentation occurs naturally when you use a disk frequently, creating, deleting, and modifying files. At some point, the operating system needs to store parts of a file in noncontiguous clusters. This is entirely invisible to users, but it can slow down the speed at which data is accessed because the disk drive must search through different parts of the disk to put together a single file.

How?

SmartDefrag provides you with various defragmenting options. You can analyse your disk, defragment it, schedule a defragment, and make it shutdown the pc after defragmentation. The two innovative features to worthy of mentioning are:

• AutoDefrag or Install and Forget: When enabled this feature automatically defragments your disk. You can set the parameters like to pause the defragmentation if the cpu usage is more than an amount. One can also set the idle time after which defragmentation starts.
• Defrag & Optimize: This feature defragments and intelligently organises drive data for maximum program performance and long-lasting data contiguity. But it might take a long time to defragment.

Why?

Pros: The AutoDefrag feature makes it really usefull as you don’t have to remember to defragment your hard drive. Your system idle time is optimized and used effectively, thus providing you a faster system….

Cons: Am really very scepticial about the Defrag & Optimize option. Alos the reports made buy it never ask me to use it. No information is provided about what it does and how much boost one gets over normal option.
