I have a daily routine of booting into windows and launching a set of programs, files like browser, IM client, utorrent, Feedreader. But what if one could launch all of your programs with a single click? Runthemall is here.

What

Runthemall allows one to launch multiple programs with a single click.

How

• Download the stand alone .exe and launch it.
• Make groups of your choice, there is a default group
• Add programs to the groups.
• Select the desired group and Run all programs in it with a single click.

An example of group could include the programs or any type of files you use for a specific task. Like i launch Firefox, Windows Media Player, Feedreader as soon as i start working. So you can also make a groups as you like customized to your needs.

Why

Pros: Allows one to make unlimited groups and add any number of applications, files, executable etc. Also no installation required.

Cons: None i could find. Please do comment and tell if you find any.

Make widgets from web pages

We had written about 360Desktop which had a feature of making widgets out of web pages, but if you only want to make web pages out of web pages then Snippage is a great tool.

What

Snippage is a utility based on Adobe AIR which can be used to make widgets or snips of webpages and displays them on desktop. Snippage is a really nice AIR implementation of the ‘web snippets’ concept. Just like you can take a clip of a website with Safari on the Mac and display it on your dashboard, Snippage brings you the same functionality cross browser with Adobe AIR.

Snippage has been developed by Gabo Mendoza a flash developer.

How

Snippage is based on Adobe AIR. You need Adobe AIR installed to install snippage.

Use Snippage:

• Once you launch Snippage you are presented with a browser like window. Enter the webpage you want to widgetize.
• The snip highlight box has three hot corners.
• Move the snip marks with our arrowed mark on left top corner.
• Resize the snip with the pointer on right bottom corner.
• Snip the website to make widget with the scissor mark on right top corner.
• In the snip view one can set the refresh time of the snip to do not refresh, refresh every 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or 3 hours.

Why

Pros: Snippage brings the “web snippets” function to your windows pc and it is really very tiny utility

Cons: Can’t adjust the refresh time manually.

Yoono is a cool plugin for firefox that integrates all the major social services into your browser. Whether it be chat, IM, Google Reader, Digg, Last.fm, Youtube, GTalk, Gmail etc…. (phew!!). So now you can track your social life while browsing. Also you can create web notes and share with friends(more about web notes later) and many more things

Who

Yoono originated when several friends found the need to rapidly exchange information without necessarity having to contact each other. They came up with a program which could effortlessly centralize, share and broadcast their selection of information. 
By extension, they imagined a service based on word of mouth which allowed them to bring together web users around common interests.

How

Just install Yoono Plugin to Firefox (an IE plugin is on its way) and create a new account within the plugin. After that select the widgets you want to use and you are off into social browsing…

Widgets:-

• Friends: This widget allows you to connect with friends on Twitter, Gtalk, Yahoo! Messenger, Facebook, Flickr, MySpace, FriendFeed etc. Here you can chat, send tweets to friends, update your facebook. All this widout leaving what you are doing.
• Discover: This widget shows websites of similar interest to what you are currently browsing, thus providing you great oppurtunity to discover content.
• Mail: This widgets allows you to read your emails from Yahoo Mail and Gmail.
• News: Gets latest news from Digg and your Google Reader account.
• Web Notes: This is a realy very great feature. Here you can drag and frop any text, image , video or any content into your notes and save it as a web note. These web notes can be shared with your Yoono friends. Web Notes are a great way to share relevant and useful information.
• Music: This feature allows you to listen live music from last.fm. Also connects you to imeem and seekpod.
• Videos: Gets the latest videos from youtube according to your preferences.
• Photos: Displays photos from current site, friends and desired keywords.

Why

Pros: Provides a one click access to a number of social networks, email, chat and other featues all seemlessly integrated into your browser.

Cons:

• In the twitter widget the last update of all friends is shown instead of a normal timeline. This is confusing as it caused me to reply to a friends status which he had last updated an year ago
• While using Yahoo Messenger really loud and funny sound is made when you receive a message from a friend.
• My twitter status was once updated automatically wiht the website i was browsing without my knowledge which i couldn’t figure out how. (The website was i was browsing was a bit private which i didn’t want to share)
• So many widgets and features in such a small area makes it really cluttered.

Laptop Alarm is a tiny freeware which can protect your laptop from getting stolen when left in a public space like a cyber cafe or a library or a wi-fi spot. It does so by sounding an alarm.

Just download the standalone .exe and run it. Set the password in options.

Following actions can sound an alarm

• Loss of AC Power which can be attributed to unplugging the laptop.
• Shutdown/ Log Off
• Unplug of USB Mouse
• Mouse Movement

Mouse movement sensitivity can also be set.

Why

Pros: The alarm is really very LOUD, no program can be launched when the laptop is locked not even task manager to end Laptop Alarm. Very small in size.

Cons: The program needs to be launched every time and can’t run in background. If someone removes battery nothing can be done. Doesn’t auto load on restarting the laptop so laptop will be unlocked.

From the publisher’s website:

1. Three different ways to close a process, as the “termination request”, the standard “forced termination” with dialogue tolerance, and the “forced termination” of any type of process, bypassing all permissions (it can also terminate running system processes).

2. DTaskManager allows you to suspend and reactivate a process (as in Linux). This is useful, for example, to temporarily suspend a task that uses system resources when you don’t want to terminate it (such as a DivX encoding process).

3. DTaskManager allows you to select more than one process at a time, and terminate all of them “simultaneously”.

4. DTaskManager does not need any useless confirmation.

Pros: 

1. Options like Freeze and Suspend Task provide the ability to stop a process  that’s taking too much resources and resume it later.
2. Find Target File finds the file associated with the process
3. Trim RAM Usage and Trim RAM Usage to all processes trims the RAM used by a process in former and trims the RAM to all processes in the Latter option.
4. Set Default Task Manager allows DTaskMager to be set as default windows task manager
